Yuriy A. Zulyar studied at the History Faculty of Irkutsk State University and in 1979 got the Diploma in History.

In 2003 he successfully defended his doctoral thesis, titled “The History of the Use of Natural Resources for Agriculture in the Baikal Territory during the Soviet Period”

Career:

1979 – Lecturer at the Department of the History of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union at Irkutsk State University.

1985 – Senior Lecturer

1988 – Associate Professor

2004 – Professor at the Department of Russian History and Political Science at Irkutsk State University.

2006-present – Head of the Department of Russian History and Political Science.

2009-present – Head of the the Department of Political Science.

2010-present – Dean of the Faculty of History of Irkutsk State University.

Membership in research institutions and expert panels:

1989 – He promoted and became a member of the editorial board of one of the first independent historical and political almanac “Provintsiya”

2005 – a member of the Dissertation Committee on History at Irkutsk State University

2007 – an editor-in-chief of the journal «The Bulletin of Irkutsk State University». Series «Political Science and Religion Studies», which he initiated and guided, and which is included in the List of Russian peer-reviewed journals.

A lecturer of: History of the Soviet Union Communist Party, Russian History, Political Science, Basics of Political Theory, Comparative Political Science, Political Marketing, Social and Political Ecology, Advertising, Mass Communications in Advertising, Political Advertising, Media Economics and Management.

Research interests: agrarian history of Siberia, social ecology, theory and practice of advertising, media management. Yuriy A. Zulyar is an expert in Russian History, Political Science and Historical Geography and Communication Science.

A member and arranger of 163 international, all-Union, all-Russian, republican, regional, interuniversity, university scientific conferences and round-tables.

The author and coauthor of 10 monographs, 12 reference works, 260 research and research-journalistic articles, 33 college textbooks, study guides, and guidelines for students and lecturers, and 194 media materials and op-ed articles.

He was a leader and participant of a number of research projects. Such projects as “History of Post-Soviet Russian Governors” (2001-2014), “Modern History of the Irkutsk Region” (2011-2014), “Baikal International Social and Humanitarian Scientific Conference” (2007-2017), “Persons of the East-Siberian Department of the Russian Geographical Society”: Bibliography” (2011-2017), “Outstanding Geographers of Siberia” (2008-2017), “Agrarian History of the Irkutsk Region” (1982 - 2017) are only a few of them.

He won the Irkutsk Region Governor’s prize in culture and art in 2014.
